Winston Who??

Britain's World War II prime minister Winston Churchill has been cut from a list of key historical figures recommended for teaching in English secondary schools, a government agency says.

But although Adolf Hitler, Mahatma Gandhi, Joseph Stalin and Martin Luther King have also been dropped from the detailed guidance accompanying the curriculum, Sir Winston's exclusion is likely to leave traditionalists aghast.
What actually is in the syllabus?

Secondary school pupils will be taught in lessons lasting just five minutes under a radical shake-up of the curriculum that introduces a raft of subjects including Mandarin Chinese and lessons on debt management, it was announced yesterday.

Schools are being encouraged to tear up their timetables and introduce new ways of teaching such as quick bursts of mental arithmetic or spelling and topic-based teaching lasting up to a week. There will be an emphasis on British identity, citizenship and challenges facing the world, such as global warming.
And this...

The curriculum has been extended beyond traditional subjects, with a new emphasis on “economic well-being” that will see students taught financial life skills, although this will not be in the compulsory part of the curriculum.

Issues such as obesity will also be tackled through the curriculum, with 11- to 14- year-olds receiving lessons in making healthy meals from basic ingredients.
Oh, and all the right people like it...

Business groups welcomed the emphasis on preparing young people for the workplace, although John Cridland, deputy director general of the CBI, warned that the education system, particularly in science teaching, must “get the support it needs in terms of specialist teachers and facilities”

The plans were welcomed by unions, although the Association of Teachers and Lecturers said they should have scrapped the subject-based curriculum entirely.

Apparently it's the syllabus for the MTV generation.

Wait I'm the MTV generation.
Make that the XBox Generation.
